The beginning of Grey’s Anatomy‘s ninth season is going to see the exit of one of the cast members, but will Mark Sloane be leaving alive or dead? It’s looking like it’s likely going to be the latter.

Grey’s Season 9 Spoilers

According to E! Online, Chandra Wilson has said, “I really appreciate the way that we have taken care of him in the beginning of the season. I think it’s something that Grey’s fans will really appreciate. We get to stroke him a lot in the beginning of our season. …It doesn’t matter if the characters aren’t there anymore. We just talk about him all the time!” It’s really sounding like they could be saying goodbye to Mark as he’s dying in a hospital bed. Eric Dane is going to be in the first two episodes of Grey’s Anatomy season 9, which will jump forward a few months for the premiere and then flash back to what happened in the woods in the second.

At this point, it would be more shocking if Mark doesn’t die, and it seems likely that when they “talk about him all the time,” it will be in relation to grieving and missing him, not Mark having Sofia for the weekend wherever he moves to or something like that. Could part of the talking about Mark include the others talking about Callie dealing with losing her best friend and Sofia’s father? It also is possible that Arizona could die, meaning the others could be talking about Callie being a single mother, raising Sofia alone. Mark’s injuries were pretty bad at the end of season 8 finale, and after Patrick Dempsey tweeted out photos of him in a hospital bed, not looking good, Mark not dying is not looking like a likely scenario.
