Grey’s Anatomy is going to be showing what happens to the doctors in the plane crash in the second episode of the season, with the premiere jumping ahead a few months. It’s still possible someone else could die, and Eric Dane has already announced he’s leaving. What’s the latest about his fate?
Grey’s Season 9 Spoilers
Patrick Dempsey tweeted two photos from the Grey’s set Monday afternoon, both showing Dane’s Mark in a hospital bed. One is a wider shot, with Callie sitting at his bedside, looking to be working on his hand, while the second is a close-up of Mark. It looks like Mark could be in a coma. He was among the more seriously injured of those in the plane crash, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they did have him in a coma. But then there is the question: Will he come out of it?
Grey’s Anatomy season 9 is going to be without at least a few of its main cast from season 8. Chyler Leigh’s Lexie died in the season 8 finale. Kim Raver’s Teddy left Seattle Grace behind for a new job, and now they’ll be saying goodbye to Eric Dane’s Mark as well. However, it has yet to be seen if he survives is injuries. Let’s say he does. They could easily write him out by saying he’s going elsewhere to recover and can’t be in Seattle any longer because of his memories of Lexie. That way, it’s not goodbye to the character forever. However, you have to take into account his daughter. Could they have him move away to a close enough location that they could say he’s spending time with her off-screen?
With teasers that Callie has a lot going on this season, it is possible that Mark doesn’t make it. It also does seem to be likely that Arizona could be dying as well. This would leave Callie a single mother, grieving for her wife and her best friend, and would certainly give Callie a lot to deal with in season 9. Those photos of Mark don’t look too good, but it is almost time to find out what happens next. The Grey’s season 9 premiere airs September 27.
