Harvard University Approves BDSM Club: 50 Shades of Crimson?

Harvard University became the latest American school of higher learning to approve a BDSM club. But don’t assume 50 Shades of Grey had anything to do with it. There is a small but growing set of discussion groups aimed at college-aged kinksters that predates the popular erotica series.

The earliest known college BDSM club is located at Columbia University in New York, according to MSNBC. Called Conversio Virium (“conversion of forces” in Latin), the group has met with university approval for the past seven years. What with how long kinky sex has been discussed on the Internet, it’s almost more surprising such clubs are that new.

The colleges and universities approving such organizations aren’t sanctioning sex parties in school function spaces. As with the publicly held munches, such groups are for discussion and socialization. After all, people who practice kink are just like everyone else. Wanting to hang out with people you have things in common with is normal.

Some might find it strange that college students would find kink interesting. After all, many of us were barely figuring out run-of-the-mill sex at that age. But considering the ease with which you can find sexual topics on the Internet, isn’t it better they discuss it amongst themselves first instead of diving headfirst into trying to mimic what they see in pictures?

BDSM clubs at colleges look like further echoes of the sexual revolution. Considering how too many people have a fear of discussing sex even nowadays, that has to be healthier than the alternative.
