A security officer for the Family Research Council was shot at the group’s headquarters in Washington, DC Wednesday, but thankfully the crazed gunman is now in custody.
The guard was still breathing when he was transported to the hospital, but there is scant information about a second victim, who was also shot. Before the end of the day, the public will know more about the incident, including the suspect’s name, and the motive for the attack.
Now, if this tragedy had occurred at a liberal think tank, such as the Center for American Progress, the media would have already been blaming the Tea Party. But, because the attack happened at the conservative FRC, which is connected to James Dobson’s Focus on the Family, liberal journalists will withhold judgement until the facts are in.
The Southern Poverty Law Center tagged the Family Research Council as a “hate group” two years ago, due to its opposition to gay marriage and abortion. Was the gunman motivated by political animosity? Or, was this simply a case of random, or workplace, violence?
The Family Research Council shooting took place just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, and is now being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
