Have you seen The Blind Side with Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne Tuohy, Tim McGraw as her husband, Sean Tuohy, and Quinton Aaron as Michael Oher?

If you haven’t, be sure to click on the link above to see a short video clip that shows the characters and the real people in the story.

Yes, real people.  The Blind Side is based on the true story of Michael Oher of the Baltimore Ravens.

While the story did show some of the things that liberals claim about all rich, white Christian conservatives, it also showed the compassion that most of us know exist in the hearts of people in churches all over America.

The Tuohy family took in Michael Oher as one of their own, although he was of a different race and someone from the “other side of town” – a place where none of them had even been before.

It was a heartwarming story, one that makes you feel good knowing that there are still special people like this in the world.

My hubby and I saw this movie at our church last night, along with church members and church neighbors.  (The sign on the church for the last week said, “Free movie – The Blind Side – and free popcorn.  April 9 – 7 p.m.)

One of the lines that I remember – and that made us all chuckle – was something the dad said.

Who would’ve thought we’d have a black son before we met a Democrat?

And one that the mom said:

If you so much as set foot downtown, you will be sorry. I’m in a prayer group with the D.A., I’m a member of the NRA and I’m always packing. (She said that to some gang members near where Michael had lived – on the other side of town.)

Here’s what it says on imdb.com:

Based on the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael “Big Mike” Oher. Michael has no idea who is father is and his mother is a crack head. Michael has had little formal education and few skills to help him learn. Leigh Anne soon takes charge however, as is her nature, ensuring that the young man has every opportunity to succeed. When he expresses an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael’s skills. They not only provide him with a loving home, but hire a tutor to help him improve his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship. Michael Oher was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft.

This will be a movie that we will purchase for our own collection of DVDs.  It’s a movie that we could watch again and again.
