The campaign for the Republican nomination appears to be taking place in an alternative universe, one where the enormous issues confronting this country–unemployment,foreclosures,the growing wealth disparity between the rich and the rest of us, the altered economy,the shrinking safety net, education funding–don’t appear to exist.


Somehow, absurd sideshows like insurance companies paying for contraception take center stage.


If we want to talk about health insurance, it should not be about what individual policies pay for, but about who can afford an individual policy, and who can get one even if he or she can afford it.
