Home Alone actor Robert Blossoms has died of natural causes at the age of 87. Blossoms played the role of ‘Old Man Marley’ in the very first of three movies bearing the same name, starring Macaulay Culkin, back in 1990.
According to a report from RadarOnline, Blossoms died at a nursing home in Santa Monica, California.
Mr. Blossoms’ role in Home Alone was that of a solitary old man–one who Macaulay Culkins’s character Kevin initially feared. He soon learned, however, that the old recluse was merely lonely, and the two wound up being good friends. ‘Old Man Marley’ even helped Kevin in his efforts to ward off the two bad guys who spent days trying to break into his house while he was Home Alone.
In addition to his one movie role, Robert Blossoms had roles throughout the years in the former daytime drama Another World, and in network hits like Moonlighting and Northern Exposure. He starred in several Broadway productions, too.
Blossoms was a decorated war veteran and should always be remembered most for the time he spent in defense of the United States. So many of our aging war heroes are reaching the end of their lives, and many have forgotten the sacrifices they made.
While it likely easiest to remember Robert Blossoms as ‘Old Man Marley’ in Home Alone, it sounds like there was way more to this talented and giving man.
May he rest in peace.
