A CEO outed the iPhone 5 release date as October 15. Stéphane Richard, the head of smart phone service provider Orange (FT) said the elusive Apple iPhone 5 device should hit France in weeks.

It’s not the season to be jolly, especially when it involves the release of one of the hottest smart phones to ever hit the wireless hand-held market.

And if history is any indication, Richard’s word is as close to law as it comes. The France Telecom Orange CEO has been correct with pre-launch information in the past, not only for iPhones, but for Apple’s iPad tablets as well.

IPhone San JoseHe stood before a large crowd of media and onlookers recently for a press conference of his own.

“If we believe what we have been told, the iPhone 5 will be released on 15 October,” said the France Telecom CEO.

An iPhone 5 release date of October 7th has been the buzz on many tech sites. And that could still be the present course for other markets — like in the US.

After all, the iPhone 3 and iPhone 4 both premiered in the United States ahead of other markets. As a result, it stands to reason that Apple will continue with the same launch protocol.

There is even talk of another white iPhone, an iPhone 5g, and other surprise features. Chances are a few of the extras include a larger screen, a dual-core processor, and an improved digital camera. And if you’re lucky, there will be a ton of newly released iPhone 5 applications.

Perhaps more will be known at the upcoming Apple media event that takes place later this month. Will it include word of the death of the iPod? Are you banking on Oct. 15th as the drop-dead iPhone 5 release date?
