Is Miley Cyrus’s New Video Too Sexy? (Full Music Video)

Miley Cyrus, 17, has certainly been stirring up a lot of controversy surrounding her latest music video, which is for the song ‘Who Owns My Heart’ from the album ‘Can’t Be Tamed’.

Needless to say, Cyrus is certainly shedding her Disney persona and distancing herself from the Hannah Montana that first made her famous. In the video in question, Cyrus is seen on a bed in a tank top and underwear, in the bathroom in the same attire, partying, gyrating, and showing a lot of skin and leg.

Many people are concerned about the image that Cyrus is sending to her teen following. After all, the majority of her fans started following her when she was the teen idol Hannah Montana. The new Miley Cyrus seems to be more geared towards an older audience, which she has yet to acquire. Until then, her original Disney fans are the ones really being exposed to this music.

Tim Winter, president of the Parents Television Council, commented, “It is unfortunate that she would participate in such a sexualized video like this one. It sends messages to her fanbase that are diametrically opposed to everything she has done up to this point. Miley built her fame and fortune entirely on the backs of young girls, and it saddens us that she seems so eager to distance herself from that fanbase so rapidly.”

Of course, one does need to keep in mind that Miley Cyrus herself is growing up, whether her fanbase stays young teens or not. No one can really expect her to be Hannah Montana forever. This seems to be a case of her needing to establish a new fan base if she’s trying to change her persona because, clearly, this new persona is not in any means for the fan base she has now.

Cyrus’s justification for the album and videos (including ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ which was also a pretty controversial video) was that “it’s just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back. And I think that’s really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, ‘No, you can’t do something,’ or, ‘You need to be this because Mom and Dad say that, teachers say this.'”

If you haven’t seen the video for ‘Who Owns My Heart’, you can see the full official video below:

Do you think the video is too sexy? Or is this just part of Miley Cyrus growing up and emerging into her own personal music style? What impact do you think it will have on her following?
