Is Saying ‘Illegal Immigrants’ a Hate Crime? Ridiculous ‘Drop the I-Word’ Campaign Backfires

Is saying “illegal immigrants” equivalent to a hate crime? Once you stop laughing, you will discover that progressive website MoveOn.org is promoting a new campaign called “Drop the I-Word,” as in “illegal,” really. The campaign originates from the website Colorlines.com, a site that promotes “racial justice” and is published by the Applied Research Center (ARC), “a racial justice think tank using media, research, and activism to promote solutions.” Among the words used to describe the “slur” of saying “illegal” when referring to immigrants: dehumanizing, violence-inducing, racist, hate-filled, and discriminatory.

MoveOn.org shares a video promoting the campaign with the headline, “One Dangerous Word We Hear All Too Often on FOX News.” The video description says, “Calling a person ‘illegal’ denies their human dignity. The slur opens the door to racial profiling and violence, and prevents truthful, respectful debate on immigration. People are not illegal.” Is this a joke? Violence? A slur? A new post by Weasel Zippers says, “Silly me, I always figured it was used to describe someone who is in America illegally.”

Colorlines.com has an equally ridiculous “pledge” for supporters to take “I will not call any human being ‘illegal.’ The racially charged slur and related terms confuse the immigration debate, fuel violence, and don’t reflect my values. I join communities nationwide in challenging all media to do the same.” Again with the violence! This is political correctness gone too far… way too far, into lala-land!

There are lots of examples of people on the site who claim the “i-word” hurts them. One example, “My name is Fernanda; I am UndocuQueer, unafraid, & unashamed!” “UndocuQueer” is less hurtful, deeming and shameful than saying “illegal?” The word “queer” has been used for a very long time to slam gay people; maybe it’s not a slur to this person, but to many it is. Can they justify replacing an accurate word to describe their status in the U.S. with a word that truly is a slur? Apparently so.

On YouTube, the MoveOn video shows comments and “Like/Dislike” votes that tell the story of American citizens who aren’t buying into this absurd campaign. The video was uploaded last May, but with all the new media exposing the “movement,” new comments are popping up. One comment from user ALIPAC1 (the channel belongs to Americans for Legal Immigration PAC) wrote, “illegal aliens is the official term used in our law code and is the most accurate description. There is very little violence against illegal aliens in America from American citizens; however, thousands of Americans are being killed by illegal immigrants each year.” The video has 130 likes and 210 dislikes at this time.

Controversial TV host Bill O’Reilly had “Drop the I-Word” campaign coordinator Monica Novoa on his FOX program, The Factor, Friday night to discuss illegal immigrants and the movement. Again, the video comments are indicative of what people really think of this. The video, called Bill O’Reilly Absolutely Destroys Young Leftist Activist Monica Novoa, has 587 likes and 196 dislikes and almost 200,000 views in less than two days. Hopefully, the only steam this campaign will gain is from citizens tired of the ever-growing political correctness nonsense!

It should be noted that ARC has received large amounts of funding from George Soros’s Open Society Institute and the Tides Foundation. Not surprising.
