J.K. Rowling announced back in February that she was currently working on an upcoming adult-themed book, and now there’s finally some more details to hold you over until the much-anticipated release later this year.
E! Online reports The Casual Vacancy will be released on September 27th, 2012 — but until then, here’s a very brief synopsis which surfaced online earlier today.
“When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.”
The famous author expressed her enthusiasm over the new project earlier in the week, tweeting “As you may have heard, I have a new book out later this year. Very different to Harry, although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much.”
Only time will tell if J.K. Rowling can surpass the amazing success of the Potter series, however unlikely that may be. Whether The Casual Vacancy will be a hit with readers is still up in the air — but it’s probably safe to say you’ll be hearing a whole lot more about this project in the months to come.
