Jack Abramoff Is Washington’s New Crime Fighter?

Jack Abramoff fighting corruption in Washington, DC is like the Devil doing the Lord’s work. Just doesn’t sound right, does it?

Well, allegedly Jack has been reformed. Will miracles never cease?

He and Buddy Roehmer, 2012 American’s Elect Presidential candidate, met Thursday to discuss all that ails Washington. The meeting was sponsored by the Committee for the Republic. (The website for the Committee for the Republic gave a message saying accessing the site might be harmful to the end-user’s computer. The only information obtained about the committee is the NNDB website.)

Abramoff is now a reformed man. He’s found God. He’s following in the footsteps of his old pal Grover Norquist and asking members of congress to pledge not to “cash in” on their political positions. And Roemer’s goal is to reform campaign finance laws. They are quite a dynamic duo.

Abramoff has ties to Republican political figures such as George W. Bush, Karl Rove, Tom Delay, Bob Ney, and Grover Norquist just to name a few. He was released from prison on June 8, 2010 after serving four years of a six-year sentence for fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy to bribe political figures.

He went to work at a pizza shop while at a half-way house following his release from prison. He no longer works for the pizza shop and has since written a book called Capitol Punishment: The Hard Truth About Corruption From America’s Most Notorious Lobbyist. There is a chapter in this memoir about his reformation.

Abramoff better hope that book makes it to the top of the best seller’s list quickly so he can pay back the $44 million he owes in restitution to the Indian tribes. Not only did he defraud the native Americans of their money but he and his co-conspirators also used racist and insulting language in emails referring to them.

He has a sense of humor though. He said that if what Newt Gingrich did for Freddie Mac was not lobbying then perhaps Abramoff is a historian also. Abramoff has called Gringrich corrupt and made him somewhat of a target; yet, he hasn’t made those same accusations about his old buddy Rick Santorum. Both have attempted to deny that Abramoff attended Senator Santorum’s weekly breakfast meetings. And for good reason, since Ricky was declared one of the most corrupt Senators in Washington in 2006 — right around the time that Jack was going to prison.

Can a man like Jack Abramoff be truly reformed?
