Jodi Arias Trial: Phone Sex Tape Revealed

After the unexpected early recess Tuesday morning, Jodi Arias took the stand for the 5th day. Her family, as well as the family of murder victim Travis Alexander, sat and listened to the notorious phone sex tape played for the courtroom. Arias sat with her hair covering her face, wiping away tears most likely brought on by sheer humiliation, as she listened to herself and her then-lover climax over the phone, and then continue conversing about music and other random subjects, even singing to each other. At one point, Travis had said to Jodi that she sounded like a 12-year-old girl when she reached climax, which the defense used as an opportunity to again poke at the idea that Travis was a pedophile.

This recorded conversation was clearly not meant for other’s ears. This was a private moment between two consenting adults that would never have been heard had Jodi Arias dragged this all out in open court. Really, conversations like this are happening all over the world right now and no one is accusing one of the parties of being a sexual deviant. America is long past the days of the sexual revolution, where talking about such things would be considered taboo. Nowadays, adults don’t have to feel ashamed to talk openly about sex, and this tape should not influence the jury against the victim in any way. If anything, it proves that Jodi is not the wilting flower type she is portraying herself to be.

Even after the tape was played, the humiliation only continued as she told her attorney of an incident where Travis Alexander sent her all over Mesa, Arizona in search of various items for their sex games while she was dressed as a school girl with braids. She again used that incident as a way to jab at her claims that Travis had proclivities for young girls and children. Is that really so horrible a thing to do? Has no other woman dressed like a school girl for sexual activity? It sounds more likely that Jodi and Travis had a normal, healthy, maybe slightly kinky sex life. That does not make him a pervert, even if sexual activity is prohibited by their shared religious beliefs.

Arias has admitted that she stabbed Travis Alexander 27 times, slit his throat, and shot him once in the face on June 4th, 2008. Though she claims these injuries were inflicted as she defended herself against the 30-year-old devout Mormon motivational speaker and entrepreneur, she had previously stated she was in no way involved in the brutal slaying. Once presented with the mountains of evidence showing she was, in fact, there, she changed her story to include 2 masked intruders who allowed her to escape with her life, and she didn’t mention the incident to anyone for fear of her and her family’s lives. Ridiculous. How much longer will she be on the stand before she gets to the relevant information?
