John Goodman’s weight loss had those in attendance staring in disbelief and now the internet is abuzz as to what Goodman may or may not have done to attain his weight loss. claims that Goodman must have dropped “at least 100 pounds.” Yet while we all speculate, Goodman, himself, has yet to officially address how he did it. His publicist did say that John’s weight loss was through “diet and exercise.

Thus I, for one, will believe what John Goodman’s publicist says about his weight loss because I know a thing or three about losing weight. A year after my first son was born, I packed on A LOT of weight because at the age of 25, I was convinced my good days were gone and I was just going to be a fuddy duddy mom. Such a sad and pessimistic way to view life.

Anyhow, at that time (5 years ago) I ballooned to a disturbingly large 145 pounds. That’s two pounds less than I had been at the height of my weight gain while I was pregnant. I’m only 5 feet tall so I was VERY portly and up until I became pregnant my normal weight was between 110 and 113 pounds. Contributing to that weight gain was a very poor diet of delicious Taco Bell chicken quesadillas and absolutely no physical activity of any kind.

It wasn’t until my husband and I moved to the Bay area (of California) with our son that I began to exercise and eat right. Mainly because we lived right next to a beautiful lake and at that time had no sources for entertainment at home (no internet, no PS3, etc). Because I wasn’t use to working out, I knew that I would have to ease into it and the easiest thing to do is to walk, IT REALLY WORKS!!! I began walking everyday around the 4.5 mile lake and I cut out my beloved fast food; a year later I was down to 108 pounds (too skinny or so I thought) and I did it all by just a few easy to do things.

I’m NOT a doctor but these are the things which worked for me and probably will not kill or harm you too much. ;o)

  • Cut out fast food
  • Minimize sugary drinks and snacks (soda, juices, cookies, etc.); Drink water instead
  • Eat more fruits and veggies (Replace ice cream w/ frozen fruit smoothies)
  • and WALK!!! If that store is just a block or two away and your neighborhood isn’t gang-filled or terrible, take that walk and stick to those walks! I found that my daily walks allowed me to appreciate my husband and child more.

I guess the big question is did I keep the weight off… well, I was 145 lbs when I was 25, now I’m 30 and 115 llbs and my weight fluctuates between 113 and 118. I’m not as active anymore but I still try to eat right. Congratulations to John Goodman for his weight loss and I hope he keeps it off.
