John Legend is easily one of my favorite R&B stars out there because his music is truly moving and his smooth vocal talent is unparalleled by anything you hear on the radio. So whenever I hear that he’s featured on another artist’s track, such as Kanye West, Jay-Z or Andre 3000, I immediately find that song and check it out. The latest John Legend guest appearance is on a new song by The Roots called “The Fire” and it is definitely fire. Legend doesn’t sign a full verse but he’s displayed with his usual vocal prowess on the song’s chorus. If you’re a fan of his, longtime or new, and live in CA you may want to go check out one of his concerts.

Speaking of being on fire, soccer aka futbol is currently the fire all over the world, as the FIFA tournament is starting in South Africa. John Legend is a World Cup performer, despite not being the biggest of soccer fans. He got interested in the World Cup during its last edition four years ago. To kick off the 2010 FIFA World Cup, there will be a special concert from South Africa televised on Friday June 11th from 8-10PM EST on ABC. Other talent includes Alicia Keys, Shakira and The Black Eyed Peas. John Legend was quoted as saying “This is pretty much one of the biggest events in the world,” he said. “They don’t really need a concert to make it that, but it certainly won’t hurt.” (The Associated Press)

The Roots’ song “The Fire” with John Legend will be on their upcoming album “How I Got Over”. It’s one of two songs that Legend guests on, the other called “Doin it Again”, which really features a vocal sample of Legend. “The Fire” will be going on my iPod nano for run or workout music because it’s inspirational and catchy. If you gave me a choice to only be able to listen to and possess either the new Drake, new Eminem or The Roots’ album, I’m going for the last choice. Roots have kept it real and keep innovating over the years, so I have no doubt based on the few tracks I’ve heard that this newest project will be “The Fire” too.

Listen to a preview of The Fire featuring John Legend below and check out Legend during the 2010 FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert Friday night at 8PM EST on ABC!
