Julia Roberts New Film ‘Eat Pray Love’

Julia Roberts is still America’s sweetheart with her down to earth personality and out of this world smile that would win anyone’s heart over. Julia’s new film ‘Eat Pray Love’ is about to hit theatres August 13th, and it’s not the typical romantic comedy that we’re used to watching.

Julia’s character “Elizabeth” in ‘Eat Pray Love’ is divorced and decides to take a trip to Italy, India and Bali to take a break from her scattered life in the U.S., like rediscovering herself and who she really is after life has thrown her too many screwballs.

Julia Roberts Pizza Eating Spree During Filming

Julia has recently provided Entertainment Weekly with a little behind the scene secret in regards to all the pizza she had eaten while on set as well as her distaste for using a “spit bucket”. A spit bucket is used for eating scenes in which the actor will spit out his or her food in order to not have to continually eat through the various cuts and shoots.

Julia however doesn’t believe in using a spit bucket, stating, “That grosses me out.” Julia ate so much pizza while shooting the film, didn’t use a spit bucket, so ended up gaining about 10 pounds.

Julia said, “If you look at any of the scenes of eating, by the end of the scene, I’m done eating. Like in the scene with the pizza, by the time the scene is over, I’ve eaten the entire piece. When we were in Naples, we started shooting at 8 in the morning, and I think by 8:45 I’d eaten 8 or 10 pieces of pizza. Pizza was what I ate all day that day.”

Julia did consult with director Ryan Murphy about the weight her character put on throughout her trip. They did come to an agreement that it seems more realistic that Julia gain a few pounds while on the shoot because it would look odd to leave looking exactly the same as when she arrived – considering the character “Elizabeth” was on a mission to eat, eat, eat, not caring about carbs.

So was Julia’s weight gain detrimental? Probably not. She’s always been so naturally tall and thin it’d be hard to really tell – and it’s probably all gone at this point!
