It seems Justin Bieber will soon join a boatload of other celebrities to record a song that will raise money for the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.  The project is being organized by none other than former American Idol judge Simon Cowell.  And he’s also asking Britney Spears and Katy Perry to join in as well.

According to Bop and Tiger Beat, Simon Cowell tweeted his plans for a new Japan relief song project yesterday, and the name Justin Bieber was at the top of his list:

“Ok, For What Has Happened In #Japan I Will Be Getting Loads Of Singers To Do A Song For It, @justinbieber @britneyspears @katyperry And More.”

Earlier today, Cowell tweeted another announcement mentioning even more famous names who’ve shown interest in or officially signed on to the project.

“We Now Have More Singers To The Song @JLSOfficial @onedirection @ollyofficial @katyperry @justinbieber @jessiejofficial @CherLloyd And More”

Kudos to Simon Cowell for organizing this great We Are The World-like undertaking and to the celebs who will participate.  Hopefully, it will raise millions of dollars for the disaster victims.

Oddly enough, Simon Cowell failed to mention Selena Gomez in his list of celebrity candidates.  A rather glaring omission since she just returned from a Wizards of Waverly Place tour of Japan.  Perhaps Cowell assumed that Selena and the Biebs will automatically come as a set.
