Justin Bieber has been harshly criticized after being photographed creepily holding a gun on a man on the set of Selena Gomez’s new movie. The gun was obviously a movie prop, and the photo was meant to be a joke. Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to think the joke was a very poor one. They’re definitely not laughing.
The now famous offending photo was snapped by an actor on the set of Selena Gomez’s new film, Feed the Dog. The man on the other end of Justin’s fake gun was the father of the actor who took the pic. Selena Gomez didn’t seem to mind the joke. She’s smiling broadly in the photo. For that matter so is the dad “held at gunpoint.” They both seemed to think it was funny. The rest of the world, not so much.
“Justin Bieber poses with a pistol, and the Internet cringes,” proclaimed the Globe and Mail, ominously adding: “This is just the most recent gaffe in a rapidly growing list of dangerously close to early Lindsay Lohan’s moments. …. Guns are on everyone’s mind as a serious crisis in Canada and the United States. Everyone, that is, except maybe Justin Bieber.”
Yikes. And they weren’t the only ones.
Even the unfailingly Bieber-friendly Hollywood Life expressed shock and dismay at JB’s egregious breach of good taste.
“Justin, what is wrong with you?,” HL asked. “Not only does this new photo show bad taste, but you’re also pointing it at the other man in the photo. Justin, whether you like it or not, you’re a role model. And millions of fans, 27 million on Twitter, are following your every move. You have power in this industry, and holding a gun in jest is just plain foolish.”
Good grief. Lighten up people. The Biebs was just joking around for a photo-op, not teaching his fans how to knock over a Seven-Eleven. While it’s true that it is never a good idea to point guns—even toy ones—at people or animals unless the situation makes it absolutely necessary, it’s highly unlikely that Justin’s antics will inspire anyone to go out and commit mayhem. Perhaps everyone is just a little too hysterical about guns right now. Hopefully that hysteria will eventually subside.
