Justin Bieber Twitter Record Beaten by President Obama

Justin Bieber’s Twitter record has been broken. And it wasn’t a pop star who broke it. It was President Barack Obama–and he broke it following his re-election on Tuesday.

According to a report from Hollywood Life, President Obama’s tweet that immediately followed word of his re-election thanked his more than 22 million followers. It was accompanied by a photo of him hugging First Lady Michelle Obama.

So how do you suppose the Biebs feels about being beaten by the president? He even performed in Washington, D.C. for his daughters on Election Day Eve, for goodness sake. And that’s the thanks he gets?

Justin Bieber - The Bieberhood Fan SiteAll kidding aside, it is a testament to the power of social media when the President of the United States uses it as a means of communicating with his supporters. It’s no longer limited to Hollywood celebrities and their fans or teenage girls dishing about the boy in their next class.

Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday weighed in on the monumental occasion Tuesday night.

“Obama did more than just beat Romney; he also ousted Justin Bieber from the Twitter top spot and broke the most significant social media records to date.”

Up until Tuesday night the record was held by the tweet Bieber sent when young cancer patient Avalanna Routh–also affectionately called Mrs. Bieber–passed away from a brain tumor.

“RIP Avalanna. I love you,” that tweet read.

“This happened because of you. Thank you,” President Obama tweeted upon winning the 2012 Presidential Election.

He followed up that tweet with: “We’re all in this together. That’s how we campaigned, and that’s who we are. Thank you. -bo”

Do you think the As Long As You Love Me singer will regain his Twitter title? Or is it forever lost to President Obama?
