Justin Bieber paved the way for a “Canadian clean sweep” of the 2011 annual Brit Awards on Tuesday night at O2 Arena in London. Both the teen dream and the Montreal rock group, Arcade Fire, won the top awards at England’s equivalent of the Grammys. Hard on the heels of their Grammy triumph, Arcade Fire won two international group awards, beating out such luminaries as Kings of Leon, Black Eyed Peas, the Script, and Vampire Weekend. They also won the award for Best International Album.
Still, with all due respect to Arcade Fire, the evening belonged to Justin Bieber who was still, no doubt, smarting from losing the Best New Artist Grammy to jazz singer Esperanza Spalding. According to The Star, the impeccably dressed 16-year-old beat out the Glee cast, Bruno Mars, The Temper Trap, and The National. In his acceptance speech, the teen idol thanked his legions of fans and one of his representatives, Michael.Â
“I donÂ’t really know what to say,” claimed the impeccably dressed Bieber. “I want to thank my fans, all you guys are amazing, I want to thank the label over here, I and to thank Michael – over here you get an international rep and who travels with you all the time, so Mike, come up here, I want to share this with you, youÂ’re awesome.”
Justin also hugged award presenter, Avril Lavigne, who is also a fellow Canadian. As he walked off the stage, he remarked: “And a fellow Canadian right here! Thank you so much everybody.”
Later that evening, the Biebs bragged via Twitter, about the thrill of kissing Rihanna and Cheryl Cole as he ascended the stage.
“I got nervous up there and couldn’t rememeber (sic) anything. Lol. I did get to kiss Cheryl Cole and Rihanna on my way to the stage. #swag lol.”
So there you have it. Justin Bieber is truly the golden boy of the hour. He loses a Grammy Award on Sunday, and wins a Brit Award two days later. He lives a charmed life indeed. In fact, the only thing he has to worry about now is what Selena Gomez will say about his “kissing Cheryl Cole and Rihanna” tweets. Â
Congrats, Justin. And lots of luck.
