Kate Gosselin, former reality TV star of TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 and Kate Plus Eight, talked recently about her practice of frugality that catches many people off guard. She dishes about coupon clipping, too.

According to a report from Business Insider, Kate explained that most people don’t expect reality show stars to practice the fine art of frugality. And she says that some cashiers seem genuinely shocked when she hands them a cents-off coupon for a grocery store item.

Kate Gosselin“They don’t expect television personalities to be frugal,” she says.

Kate claims, however, that she has no choice but to be frugal these days. Since Kate Plus Eight was canceled, she hasn’t had any particularly lucrative employment options. She does a stint for CouponCabin.com, touting the merits of her frugal practices, but that can’t go a long way in paying the bills.

Even if Kate Gosselin were still a big reality TV star, she and ex-husband Jon Gosselin have eight children. That means eight kids to eventually outfit for Junior and Senior Prom, eight kids to visit colleges with, and eight kids for whom college tuition could amount to a lot of dough. If you were Kate, you’d likely be clipping coupons, too.

So even if Kate Gosselin annoys the living %$#@ out of you, there are a few things you can learn from her lessons on frugality. Even though she still sports expensive haircuts and is accompanied by a bodyguard, she’s saving a quarter on her breakfast cereal.

And she’ll teach you how to do the same!
