Kate Middleton and Prince William have obviously had a huge year, with their wedding last April making worldwide headlines. Since then they have toured Canada and the United States, done a number of charity appearances, and are preparing for their first royal Christmas together. Wednesday, Canada’s Maclean’s named them the 2011 Newsmakers of the Year, and many of their fans think they are a natural choice.

Mark Stevenson, Maclean’s editor-in-chief, said, “They were never very far from the headlines this year.” He added, “And at every stop on their Canadian tour, the crowds were captivated by a very modern royal couple.” Maclean’s produces an annual “Newsmakers” issue, which has 120 pages of the year’s hottest winners, losers, setbacks, comebacks, heroes, and heartbreakers of the year. This is the 7th year Maclean’s has created the issue, and it seemed a no-brainer to include Kate Middleton and Prince William.

As Canada Newswire says, Kate Middleton and Prince William’s fairytale wedding last spring “gave the monarchy new blood and relevance.” Theirs is a love story that people of all ages can embrace, and it seems they have only increased in popularity since the wedding. While everybody is on a Kate Middleton pregnancy bump watch, for now fans will have to be satisfied with continued reports on their charitable endeavors and stories on how they are settling into married life together.
