Kate Middleton Topless Pics Not Posted in UK—Yet

Topless pics of Kate Middleton taken while she was sunbathing in France will not be published by The Sun, Rupert Murdoch’s flagship tabloid in the UK, or any other British newspaper, says an early report from print honchos in that country.

But since the topless photos have already been published by the French magazine Closer, it’s probably just a matter of time. After all, the cat’s out of the bag.

UK newspapers are still embroiled in the phone hacking scandal, and some top editors have even been arrested. But the laws governing privacy in England are basically toothless and hard to enforce with stiff penalties like jail sentences or hefty fines.

According to FOX News, former News of the World executive editor Neil Wallis told BBC radio, “They won’t get published in this country, and if I was still an editor I would not be publishing them.”

The key quote here is meaningless, since Wallis is himself under fire for allowing phones to be hacked by reporters looking for an edge in news stories, some having to do with private citizens.

Now that the UK tabs have been scooped by a French magazine, the whole issue is moot.

For now.
