Katie Couric said goodbye to the CBS Nightly News at the close of Thursday’s evening news cast. After close to five years on the job, she leaves her job as the evening news anchor.

According to a report from Popeater, Thursday’s news featured a montage of Couric and some of the more noteworthy news events she covered throughout the past five years. Those clips included interviews with President Obama and Clint Eastwood, as well as coverage on the death of Osama bin Laden.

Katie bid a poignant adieux when signing off the evening news for the last time.

“To all of you watching, thank you so much for coming along with me on this incredible journey,” Couric said. “That’s the CBS Evening News for tonight. I’m Katie Couric. Good night.”

Those who have long been fans of Katie will probably note that her farewell on Thursday evening was nothing much compared to her farewell when leaving the Today Show more than five years ago. That goodbye was filled with far more emotion and even some tears, but of course, the format of that show was quite different from that of the evening news. And her relationships with Today Show stars Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, and Al Roker spanned a vast realm from co-workers to meaningful friendships.

While nothing concrete has been announced about what Katie Couric plans to do following her stint on the CBS Nightly News, she did have the following to say prior to her departure:

I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling… I have a lot of areas of interest, and I want to be able to fulfill all of that.

Despite what Katie Couric opts to undertake, it will likely be met with a warm reception and wind up completely successful. Katie is a stellar interviewer and a very comprehensive journalist. She has the talent to turn nearly anything she touches into gold.

Best wishes are certainly in order to Katie Couric, as she departs the CBS Nightly News and goes on to endeavors that are thus far undetermined.
