A trainer at SeaWorld Orlando lost her life today when she was attacked by a killer whale. Park guest Victoria Biniak told WKMG-TV that the trainer was standing outside the pool in Shamu Stadium when the the whale suddenly came up from the water, grabbed the trainer around the waist and “thrashed her all around” to the point the trainer’s shoe fell off.
Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman John Mulhall says paramedics were called to the Shamu Stadium at the theme park resort where they found the mortally injured trainer. She could not be revived. Her name has not yet been released.
The whale responsible for the attack is a bull, or male, named Tillikum. He has lived at the park since 1992, and has been one of eight killer whales there.
The park guests were evacuated and the park was closed.
