Kim Kardashian could be called a slightly controversial figure. The reality TV show diva has provided plenty of fodder for non-fans to focus on–from her over-the-top wedding and 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries and the subsequent dramatic divorce proceedings to her new romance with Kanye West, which has also been accused of being a faux love for the limelight only. But the Keeping up with the Kardashians star recently uttered a political statement that quite possibly could have united her fans and foes alike.
She turned her attention from style during Fashion’s Night Out in New York City on Thursday, Sept. 6 to politics, jetting to Charlotte, N.C. for a Democratic National Convention after party the same evening. However, her foray into the sphere of politics may have surprisingly caused less divisiveness than, say, opinions about one of her latest outfits such as the over-the-top, sexy cutout number she wore one night earlier for a New York Fashion Week party on Wednesday. (It was one fabric strip way from a cleavage-busting wardrobe malfunction.)
Her tendency to flaunt her curves aside, Kim Kardashian kept it cool when she talked politics at a P.A. at Lord & Taylor for her new fragrance, True Reflection–right before jetting off to the DNC. She smartly stayed away from topics of Team Romney or Team Obama (no need to polarize any more of her followers!), but did voice an opinion most everyone can get behind: the importance of voting.
“I always think it’s really important to help others get informed,” she said, as Celebuzz reports. “Voting is such a personal decision. No matter what [party] you are.” Her rapper boyfriend, Kanye West, has been rumored to be influencing his girl’s sartorial choices. But he also famously urged young people to vote during the ’08 presidential election, so maybe she’s taking another page from his song book here.
Despite her egalitarian, down-to-earth and admirable view on the significance of everyone placing an informed vote, Kardashian’s jet-set journey to the DNC with her pals Rachel Roy and Jonathan Cheban was not quite so grounded. “This is how we do… Private plane & Wendy’s DNC party here we come,” she tweeted of her high-flying journey. Well, at least the Wendy’s fast-food sustenance kept her trip at a slightly more relatable level!
