With swollen eyes
wild hair and vacant limbs
she bends to pick up
the pieces of her life
on the linoleum floor
Squares of black and white
distorting the shards
creating a tableau
of a world torn apart

If there is grace in this world
she will find a path of kindness
where flecks of gold and silver
will fill the spaces left behind
and her inner beauty will
as it always did before
she was lost in the tornado of him
along the ragged edges of her mind

On the checkerboard  floor
is the essence of her
the Queen
she will begin to reclaim
