BACON TRICK

If a recipe calls for thin bacon but all you have is thick, simply use a rolling pin to flatten it.

Marble rolling pins work well because the bacon won't stick to the pin, but you can also use a wooden one; just cover it with a plastic wrap.

A GRATE IDEA

Instead of mashing hardboiled eggs with a fork to make egg salad, try using a cheese grater. It's quicker, and the shredded egg is a more uniform size, which gives the salad a nicer consistency. You can use a flat, box or rotary-style grater.

SCRUBBING MITT

A loofah is designed for bathing, but it works in the kitchen too. Purchase a mitt – style loofah to keep near the kitchen sink for scrubbing pots and pans.
