Koran burning canceled by Terry Jones

Terry Jones controversial plan to burn the Koran on September 11th has been called off. The cancelation came after high profile condemnations of the event by Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and General David Petreaus. It’s about time. It was feared that the Koran would ignite an outpouring of anti-Americanism and violence across the Muslim world, exposing innocent civilians and U.S. soldiers to unnecessary dangers.

I heard the news on NPR moments ago. An online piece posted on BBC News confirmed it.

Up until today, Jones had stubbornly resisted listening to reason. The pastor insisted that the event would expose the violence of the Islam, apparently oblivious to the fact that he was a mirror image of the very extremists he vowed to oppose.

I’ve always suspected that the Koran burning event was just a publicity stunt designed to increase sales of Jones new book “Islam is of the Devil”, which was released just last month. Now that the ploy has failed, let’s all hope that Jones drifts back into the shadows of obscurity. The last thing the world needs right now is more hate.
