The LA Angels made another big splash this winter when they signed Josh Hamilton to a big contract and with the team having four players that could hit 30+ homers in a season, things are looking good heading into the season opener, or are they?
With a solid starting lineup and an above average starting rotation, the bullpen is a big question mark heading into the 2013 campaign. Ryan Madson had Tommy John surgery during the off-season and is just beginning to throw off the mound and Sean Burnett has just returned from his own injury woes. The front office was hoping Nick Maronde or Chad Cordero would add some depth, but both relievers have ERA’s over 10.00 this spring and things are looking bleak.
After winning 89 games last year with a solid offense, the hope was adding a couple veteran would help the bullpen this season, but injuries and ineffective pitching could mean this team will need to make a trade or two if they want all the money they have spent over the last two years not going to waste.
Look for the LA Angels to give these players a shot to begin the year and hope that Madson and Burnett workout, but if this team is struggling in May, some big changes could occur as the team looks to overtake Texas and Oakland in the upcoming baseball season.
