Lady Gaga is about to give her Little Monster fans a “Gilt” trip (in addition to that “Judas” complex that’s already in effect!). Luxury flash sale site Gilt Groupe is going gaga for the controversial pop sensation with a two-day selling event of fashions curated by Gaga’s innovative, boundary-pushing stylist Nicola Formichetti.
There probably won’t be any raw meat dresses or egg incubators on Gilt, but there are sure to be plenty of provocative options available from a cutting-edge roster of designers, all inspired by Gaga’s most remarkable and statement-making ensembles. The site launches the special sale during the week of the singer’s Born This Way album debut on May 23.
Said a source, “Nicola incorporated signature Gaga items, like the glasses she wore in the ‘Just Dance’ video and the cane she had in the ‘Bad Romance’ video.”
Formichetti also happens to be the creative director for Mugler, where he sent out avante-garde, vampy exits (including that see-through, bright blue bodysuit Gaga just donned in Mexico) for his Fall 2011 women’s ready-to-wear collection. The Lady G even made several runway cameos during the show, upstaging the leggy catwalkers and Formichetti muse Rick Genest, known as “zombie boy” for his human skeleton-inspired tattoos all over his body.
That said, the Nicola Formichetti-Lady Gaga collaboration for Gilt Groupe will certainly be a bizarre, yet brilliant, change of pace, given that the site traditionally features more mainstream designs from such bold names as Marni, Zac Posen, Trina Turk and Winter Kate, among many others.
Even more thrilling? Lady Gaga fans will not only be able to score their outfit on Gilt Groupe for their next Gaga concert, they’ll also be able to purchase the actual tickets and even download the Born This Way album. “For the first time ever, Gilt will give their shoppers the opportunity to download an album and buy concert tickets,” the source confirmed.
So, put on that poker face, channel Gaga and get prepared to ready-set-shop: Formichetti-style!
