There are few people in the world today with a message of self-expression as powerful as that of Lady Gaga. Now the singer/songwriter is being recognized for her support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth by The Trevor Project. Lady Gaga is this year’s Hero Award recipient.

According to Zap2it and the Chicago Tribune, Lady Gaga will be honored with the award because “Our young people are at the center of a health crisis, and vocal leaders like Lady Gaga and technology leaders like Google Inc. have stepped up to help change our culture.”

The Trevor Project is an organization that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention to LGBT youth.

The Trevor Project’s Hero Award will be presented as part of an event called Trevor Live, which raises money for The Trevor Project. The ceremony is scheduled for Sunday December 4 at The Hollywood Palladium.

Many A-list celebrities will be in attendance to show their support including the most of the cast of Fox’s Glee, Neil Patrick Harris, Zachary Quinto, and American Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson just to name a few.

The event will be directed by famed choreographer Adam Shankman and promises to be a fantastic evening.

In Andrea Reiher’s article, David McFarland, CEO of The Trevor Project said, “Our honorees are working with The Trevor Project to make a better today and brighter tomorrow for youth.”

Google teamed up with The Trevor Project to create the “It Gets Better” campaign to encourage LGBT who are struggling to be accepted in their schools, homes, and workplaces. Thank you Lady Gaga and Google for having the courage and fortitude to let LGBT youth be proud of who they are.

It’s organizations like The Trevor Project, companies like Google Inc. and people like
Lady Gaga who are taking steps in the right direction to make the LGBT community a safer place for everyone.
