Lady Gaga is the latest celeb to anger PETA. Apparently Lady Gag’s raw red meat dress didn’t impress PETA members.
According to NewsOxy, that among the many people upset over Lady Gaga’s meat dress, PETA is one of the most vocal about their disapproval. Lady Gaga wore her now infamous meat dress to the recent Video Music Awards where she won the most awards.
The Post Chronicle reports that it wasn’t until the VMAs that PETA piped up. The orginaztion apparently ignored another meat stunt by Lady Gaga earlier in the month when Lady Gaga posed for Japan’s Hommes Vogue magazine in a raw meat bikini.
PETA’s president, Ingrid Newkirk, said, “In that business Lady Gaga has a hard time being ‘over the top’ and wearing a dress made out cuts of dead cows is offensive enough to bring comment, but someone should whisper in [Lady Gaga's] ear that there are more people upset by butchery than impressed by it, and that means a lot of young people will not be buying her records if she keeps it up.
On the other hand, maybe it was fake, and [Lady Gaga]‘ll talk about that later. If not, what’s next: the family cat made into a hat?… This comes at a time when 2,000 people in the U.K. are going vegetarian each week.”
According to Time, Lady Gaga spoke out about those who disliked her meat dress while on the Ellen Degeneres’s talk show where she once again wore a meat dress. This meat dress was probably a different one from the one Lady Gaga had worn to the VMAs was probably really smelly by the end of the night. She did not specifically address PETA.
Lady Gaga said, “[The dress] has many interpretations. If we don’t stand up for our rights soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones. And I am not a piece of meat.”
Regardless of what Lady Gaga true reasons for wearing raw meat repeatedly as clothing, she did end up causing controversy which was surely one of the things Lady Gaga had planned on.
PETA may not be a fan but it’s unlikely many of Lady Gaga’s true fans will stop buying her music just because PETA is voicing out against Lady Gaga meat clothing. Her fans have come to expect her to shock and cause controversy. It must be getting a little harder to decide what else to do to top the last thing she’s done.
