Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” has been destined to top the charts since she sang those first few preview chords during her acceptance speech at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, leaving devoted fans (known as Little Monsters) chomping at the bit for more. Apparently, whetting the appetite of her fans was an incredibly successful tactic too. The song has become the fastest-selling iTunes single ever, beating out pop singles by powerhouses Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Britney Spears. Wow!
“Born This Way” sold over one million tracks within the first five days after its release, and is currently topping the charts in over twenty-three countries, including – obviously – the United States!
Despite her strange stunts (such as her entrance into the Grammys last Sunday in an egg-shaped apparatus), Gaga continues to prove that she’s fluent in whatever it may be that her fans want, giving her the ultimate recipe for success.
It will be interesting to see just how high “Born This Way” sales reach!
What do you think of the single? Even if you’re not a particular fan of the song, most would agree that the message is one that is emotionally charged and relevant these days, wouldn’t you agree?
