Let’s Hope Romney Debate “Zingers” Don’t Resemble A Palin-Style Pig

The Romney debate team has been coaching him on one-liners (a.k.a. “zingers”) for tonight. Hopefully the GOP has something better than the Palin 2008 GOP Convention “zinger” involving a lipstick-wearing pig. What was that comment even about? Nobody remembers; but they remember the line and it got a huge applause at the convention. Palin might be coaching him herself. She is, after all, the reigning queen of “zingers.”

CNN has identified 5 things to watch in the debate tonight. One is the “zinger.” Others on the list involve changing the topic from domestic policy (i.e. the economy, health care and the role of government) to foreign policy and immigration. The role of government opens up the conversation to a range of social issues including gun control laws, abortion, gay marriage, taxes and any other area of Americans’ personal lives where legislation exists to control it.

CNN asks if Romney can bring Libya into the discussion and if Obama can bring Latinos into the discussion. Immigration could fall under the “role of government” category but foreign policy issues are scheduled for a future debate. It might not look presidential for Romney to bring up foreign policy. Although, he hasn’t done a very good job of looking the part yet. Why start now?

Apparently, Romney doesn’t even think he can win this debate! He says, “it’s not so much winning and losing or even the people themselves – the president and myself – it’s about something bigger than that.” Either he’s so arrogant that he thinks he can win the White House without winning a debate or he’s just that ignorant. Which is it?

The economy is the prize tonight. If the Romney debate covers some details that actually add up, he has a chance to score big in this area. However, all Obama has to do is punch holes in Romney’s math (shouldn’t be too difficult). He doesn’t even need to present his own economic plan to do well.

Lipstick does bring out Paul Ryan’s eyes though, doesn’t it?
