Liam Neeson’s movie “Unknown” topped the box office on President’s Day weekend. The action-thriller from Warner Bros. brought in an estimated $25.6 million during the holiday weekend.

The Liam Neeson movie was a surprise winner at the box office. Many thought that “I Am Number Four” would take top honors over the holiday, but it came in at third with an estimated $22.6 million take. Disney’s “Gnomeo and Juliet” took second with an estimated $24.8 million in its second weekend. Many families likely took in the animated flick, and there were no new family movies competing with it.

With “Unknown” exceeding its pre-release projections Liam Neeson has done it again just like in 2008 with “Taken.” The movie cost around $30 million to make, so it looks like it was a good investment overall, which must be nice for Warner Bros., Neeson and producer Joel Silver and his Dark Castle Entertainment.

Older audiences drove to the theaters to take in the movie – 80% of the moviegoers who watched “Unknown” were over the age of 25. Were you one of the people who watched it this weekend? If so, what did you think about the newest Liam Neeson movie?
