Light

the night is dark

enfolding like fog

feeding fear and phobia

cloaking my world in these early hours

yet, flees the face of dawn

like a thief in the light -

I think of you and me

of all we’re bound to be

as the eastern sky begins to boil

and all around me takes form -

from the day dawn brings

night takes refuge

as shadow and shade

cowering in contrast

hapless in your shining

as am I in the light of your gaze

the brilliance of your smile

the warmth of your skin

upon my own -

spellbound

the darkness of life -

behind me
