Some recent American Idol news has spawned a bigtime star by way of the internet.  General Larry Platt’s famous lines from Wednesday night’s American Idol- “looking like a fool with your pants on the ground” have really caught fire in the past day.  Platt is now being talked about just about everywhere from the office water cooler to USA Today and the New York Times.  Earlier, on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show taping, he was payed tribute to by legendary songwriter Neil Young who did a slowed down, acoustic version of the hit song from Idol.

General Larry Platt’s Pants on the Ground has now spawned fan pages, several T-shirts and what appears to be a record deal soon to release the single.  The longtime civil rights activist is now an overnight sensation straight from American Idol, who amused the judges and has captured the hearts of America now.

In the video below you can see Neil Young’s acoustic rendition of “Pants on the Ground”.  It’s amazing what less than 15 minutes of fame can bring, but General Larry Platt is the latest hot star to emerge as a non-winner, and non-contestant (William Hung) from American Idol.  We say give the 62 year old star a shot, even if he’s a tad over the 28 years of age requirement for the reality show!

Enjoy the video and remember don’t get caught looking like a fool with your pants on the ground!  If video doesn’t show on your web browser, see it here.
