Man Catches Biggest Fish in Oklahoma State History

An El Reno, Oklahoma man, Richard Williams, caught the largest Flathead catfish in state history.  I don’t know what the largest one weighs, but William’s fish weighed in at a whopping 78.8 pounds.  This is a fish tale to tell all.

That’s a lot of catfish.  I’m particularly proud as the fish came from Lake El Reno in my hometown.  The fish was caught on Tuesday.  The previous state record was 76.1 pounds.

El Reno Tribune quotes Williams, “I never thought I would do something like this.  I fought for a good 10 minutes, and I finally pulled him in on a 14 pound line,” Williams said.

Williams was bass fishing when he caught the monster catfish.  My friend and neighbor, Tony Rivera who is the city manager reminded us that this fish is a good time to remind residents they need a fishing license. Thanks Tony.

Congratulations to Richard Williams and good-bye catfish.  There are unconfirmed reports of larger catfish but if this isn’t the biggest, I don’t want to meet the big one.
