Just days ago it was reported that actor Ed Norton was out of his role as The Hulk for Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Avengers” film.  Now it appears they may have found their new Bruce Banner aka Incredible Hulk with Mark Ruffalo.

Mark Ruffalo is 42-years-old and according to the NY Post is in “late-stage talks” for the role as The Incredible Hulk.  He currently stars in the critically-acclaimed film “The Kids Are All Right” along with Annette Benning.  Other films to his credit include “Where the Wild Things Are”, “Date Night” and “Zodiac” along with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Celebs attend The Kids Are Alright screening at the Sunshine Theater in NYC, NY on June 30, 2010. The film staring Julianne Moore and Annette Bening showcases the chaos ignited when the children of a middle aged lesbian couple seek out their biological father, played by Mark Ruffalo. This would make Mark Ruffalo the third actor to take on the role in the movies.  Previously, Eric Bana and Ed Norton played the role of Bruce Banner, with The Hulk monster being re-created by CGI.  In the original television series two actors took on the role: Bill Bixby as David Banner and Lou Ferigno as The Hulk.

According to MTV.com, they previously spoke with Ruffalo about the possibility of a superhero/comic book role.  Ruffalo said he wasn’t sure if he’d fit the bill of a superhero, but had been in talks to play Harvey Dent for “The Dark Knight” movie.  He told MTV News, “I don’t know if I’ll ever end up in that world, but I’d love to work with Christopher Nolan. He’s one of those directors you want to work with. He’s a great director.”

Other actors who seem confirmed to be part of this project will be Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role of Iron Man; Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow; Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Chris Evans as Captain America.  The movie is scheduled to release sometime in 2012, but is one of the most anticipated superhero releases around.

Personally, Mark Ruffalo seems like a great choice for this role and will further add to the ensemble cast.  He looks almost like a cross between Bill Bixby and Lou Ferigno too.  He should be an excellent cast member to play the angry green Hulk, who may even be the villain in “The Avengers” film.
