Martin Bashir: Reverend Wright, Hate Porn and Intolerance

Martin Bashir is vocal about his distaste for Mitt Romney. He also is not afraid to invoke Mormonism in his anti-Romney rhetoric. In April, Bashir used his bully pulpit to proselytize about the Book of Mormon about the tenets of moral character referring to Romney’s “lies.” According to the Huffington Post, “Bashir pulled out the Book of Mormon to condemn Mitt Romney…arguing that the GOP candidate is on his way to hell.” Did Bashir ever invoke Mormonism to bash Harry Reid’s lies? Harry Reid is also a Mormon.

MSNBC's Martin Bashir: Palin Bus Tour In "Breach Of Federal Law" by porchlifeJust last week, Bashir pulled out the religion card yet again, this time going on a tirade about Romney’s faith in response to a proposal by a conservative Super PAC to expose recent allegations made by Reverend Wright that Barack Obama allegedly sought to bribe his former spiritual mentor with 150k to keep quiet until the 2008 election, a topic completely unrelated to Romney’s faith, which should not be an issue in an election.

Wright told Edward Klein, author of “The Amateur” that Obama implored him, “‘I really wish you wouldn’t do any more public speaking until after the November election…I wish you wouldn’t speak. It’s gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.'” This bombshell, if true, speaks to President Obama’s character and instead of exploring these allegations, the mainstream media has been dismissing this story and deflecting by focusing on other things, such as Mitt Romney’s Mormonism.

Is it reasonable to discuss the allegations made by Reverend Wright? What if they are not true? What if they are true? Take the poll here:

Martin Bashir asked one of his panel members, Joan Walsh:

“Do republicans really want to start talking about religious influence on candidates? Do they really want us to start talking about Mitt Romney, who is part of a religious group that has been one of the most racially segregated in the history of this country? Until the late 1970s, African-Americans, people of color couldn’t be ordained? Does he really want us to start talking about his grandfather [it was actually his great grandfather] who had five wives…is that what they want to do?”

Joan responded, “Well, this is hate porn, Martin.” Hate porn?

Reverend Wright made other disturbing allegations toward the Obama family and the democrats. He stated that Hillary Clinton paid off black preachers and that President Obama was “selected” before he was “elected” and is therefore beholden to special interests.

To demonize a person based on their faith or their family is clearly not the answer, an individual’s character is the only thing that matters. However, if an action has been proven and could speak to one’s character, that is fair game, as it tells us about the individual.
