Mary Alice White was sentenced for stealing jewelry from Paula Deen. White was DeenÂ’s housekeeper for about nine months. During that time, the housekeeper took a reported $100,000 worth of goods from the Food network star. All the jewelry was stolen from Deen’s Georgia home. So, how did White get caught?

The housekeeper probably took whatever she could get her hands on!  Mary Alice White was sentenced to 18 months in prison and six years’ probation for stealing from Paula Deen.

Apparently, White, 47, was fired by Paula Deen’s husband prior to her getting arrested. In May, Michale Anthony Groover told authorities they caught White red-handed with some jewelry and fired her.  Not long after, she was arrested for trying to peddle a pair of $18,000 earrings at a local pawn shop. The earrings belonged to Deen.

ItÂ’s safe to say Mary Alice White is giving hardworking housekeepers a bad rep. The percentage of crooked housekeepers to honest ones is probably small. Unfortunately, news reports rarely feature awesome housekeepers. In WhiteÂ’s case, itÂ’s doubtful she will be employed as a housekeeper again.

ItÂ’s a safe bet that Paula Deen will replace Mary Alice White with another housekeeper. Only this time, it wonÂ’t be a surprise if Deen keeps her jewelry in a safer place. Do you have a housekeeper or house cleaner that comes by to keep up your home?
What is the trust level you have with your housekeeper?
