Matt Lauer was not very well received on Thursday as he played host to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Twitter was abuzz with anti-Lauer rants; some telling him to simply retire.

According to a report from RadarOnline, Lauer’s popularity tanked after word got out that he played a role in the firing of Ann Curry from The TODAY Show last summer. Ann was replaced by Savannah Guthrie and was supposed to appear many times during the Summer Olympics in London. That never quite panned out and Lauer’s hot seat is growing increasingly fiery.

“Lauer should get a lifetime achievement award for saying ridiculous things with deadpan, absolute sincerity. Way to go Matt,” one Twitter follower wrote.

Matt LauerIt was when Matt mispronounced something no seasoned talk show host should mispronounce that the tweets went off at machine gun speed. He called Gershwin’s ‘S Wonderful’ like it was called S. Wonderful.

“Really Matt Lauer? ‘S. Wonderful’ Try ‘S’Wonderful,’ one of the most popular Gershwin songs ever written. Heard of the Gershwins?” wrote one annoyed Twitter follower who watched the parade.

Another tweeted, “Lauer’s enunciation of ‘S Wonderful makes it clear that he is totally devoid of funk.”

Recently some sources have said the only way to salvage The TODAY Show is to get rid of the longtime anchor. Maybe he should be edged out of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, too?

“Can’t decide if it’s Lauer that I hate, or just the mindless blather that comes out of his face all the time,” one fan tweeted.

Do you think Ann Curry’s former co-host has seen better days on live TV?
