Matt Lauer Subject of New NBC Campaign to Save Him and ‘TODAY Show’

Matt Lauer and The TODAY Show have plummeted in the TV ratings since Ann Curry was fired last summer. Now NBC has launched a new ad campaign in an attempt to salvage both Lauer’s reputation and the show.

According to a report from RadarOnline, it’s failing. The ad attempts to lead viewers to believe that the cast of The TODAY Show is one big happy family—with Lauer at the head table, and he and Al Roker bantering about their families.Matt Lauer

It isn’t working because people have had just about enough of Matt. The cast can’t quite understand why the ad doesn’t feature Hoda Kotb or Willie Geist—both of whom are wildly popular components of The TODAY Show.

Ever since Ann Curry’s untimely departure from The TODAY Show, Good Morning America has run rampant in the ratings. A recent report said if TODAY‘s ratings didn’t drastically improve by February that Matt Lauer’s job could be on the chopping block.

What do you think NBC should do to try to salvage The TODAY Show? Do you think Matt’s reputation can be salvaged or should the network simply let him go and put someone like Willie Geist in as co-anchor of TODAY with Savannah Guthrie?
