Memories of Hands


Two months

before Christmas,

motherly hands mixed

rich, spicy cake; and

ritually offered tubby

fingers to waiting

mouths. One for

my sister, one for me.


Then the time came

as you lay in your

coffin; I looked upon

hands, refined as of youth …

beautiful, slim hands.
