Miley Cyrus has debuted a round of rather, ahem, creative style statements of late, which have perhaps been just as shocking as her recent haircut and dye job. The provocative entertainer went peroxide blonde and lopped off more than a few inches, yielding a short, androgynous crop. It was a daring move for a bride-to-be; she’s engaged to handsome Australian actor, Liam Hemsworth. But not her impending walk down the aisle, nor the not-so-nice commentary of more than a few has done anything to dampen Cyrus’s thrill of her ‘do.
It helps that Hemsworth has been nothing but supportive of his fiancée’s radical new hair and her current fashion phase that has her channeling a grungy, dumpster-diva aesthetic. Closet case in point? The singer-actress was recently tromping around New York City in a black T-shirt, denim cut-offs and clunky, lace-up combat boots. Tied around her waist was an oversized camo jacket and piled around her wrists and neck was chain-like jewelry. The result? An altogether punk-ish, disheveled and do-not-try-this-at-home look.
But it seems Miley Cyrus may be crossing over to the softer side and showing that she may have a strong, masculine hairstyle, but she can still play fashion princess–minus the tiara and the tulle. This is Cyrus. In a recent Twitter post, she went from grunge-star to edgy-glam goddess, as she posted a photo of her with her mom, Tish Cyrus.
”Photoshoot withhhh mommmmmyyyyy #mileycyrus.com,” she tweeted. Wearing a high-waisted, floral-painted, pastel yellow pencil skirt paired with a black bralette top that was embellished with bronze metallic detail, Cyrus was a veritable style darling. The big finish was a fierce pair of leopard-print platform heels.
The ensemble, as seen via Entertainmentwise, was girly and glam, bold and boundaries-pushing, but also sophisticated. It showed just enough midriff to be sexy not vulgar, and it also embraced one of the latest hot trends: mismatched patterns and prints. Flowers, black, metallic and animal skin seem like a motley combo that would never work, but they’re actually oh-so-right, as Cyrus demonstrates. Of course, it’s fabulous that she left that unsightly camouflage jacket in her closet. That’s one pattern that shouldn’t get any photo opps.
As for her hair, Cyrus’s stylist coaxed her minimal strands into a dynamic coif that translated as powerful and polished rather than clumsy and boyish. And her makeup, featuring a heavily lined eye, was just as cool.
She should adopt this pretty twist on her edgy-grungy go-to look for longer than just her photo shoot. After all, Liam Hemsworth just has to be a fan of getting the “girl” back in his girlfriend.
