Miss USA 2012 Controversy: Was Pageant Winner Rigged?

There is a controversy in the Miss USA 2012 pageant. A contestant resigned alleging that the pageant was rigged. Miss Pennsylvania USA Sheena Monnin turned in her crown. Of course, pageant officials said that her charges have no merit.

Miss USA 2012 Controversy: Was Pageant Winner Rigged?Even so, Sheena Monnin wrote on Facebook, “Effective immediately I have voluntarily, completely, and utterly removed myself from the Miss Universe Organization. In good conscience I can no longer be affiliated in any way with an organization I consider to be fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent, and in many ways trashy.”

According to Monnin, Miss USA officials chose the five finalists in advance of Sunday’s show. She even claims to have proof of this. If this is true, that would be a huge issue for the Miss Universe organization.

Of course, the pageant said that Monnin actually resigned because she did not agree with the pageant allowing transgendered contestants. This may well be part of her issue with the pageant, but that does not mean that they did not pre-choose the top 5 finalists.

The pageant released a statement that said, “We are disappointed that [Monnin] would attempt to steal the spotlight from Olivia Culpo of Rhode Island on her well-deserved Miss USA win. The contestant she privately sourced as her reference [of pageant-fixing] has vehemently refuted her most recent claim.”

What do you think? Is Monnin upset about transgendered contestants and the fact that she did not end up winning the crown last weekend, or do you believe that officials rigged the results?
