Modern Family: The Best Family Show on TV

I am not a big TV watcher. I have a few core programs I like to watch and mostly movies: Dexter, Californication, United States of Tara, Entourage, Boardwalk Empire, Band of Brothers mini-series … but you get the point. Mostly Premium channels.

However, Modern Family on ABC has to be the one show that, hands down, I religiously set my DVR for since the first season. Now well into the second season, my DVR is filling up and I’m prepared to buy the episodes on DVD.

Just when you would expect quality of the comedy to decrease, the show just keeps getting funnier. I recently watched this week’s Episode Manny Get Your Gun. I keep laughing so hard, I miss the jokes that happen so rapid fire, I have to rewind the DVR to catch what I miss.

Whenever I ask someone about the show, they always stop at ‘isn’t it with those two gay guys’. The show is much more than just them and it’s not a show without them. What those two characters do is help respect a gay relationship as opposed to the sexual nature most other shows or people JUST associate gay relationships for. Cam and Mitchell actually bridge the gap to a healthy understanding of what a gay relationship is all about. Not bring gay, it’s great information for heterosexuals and they are so very funny.

The other families have their quirks that are no different than the rest of us. I urge all of you reading this to watch this show which, in my opinion, is a 21st century Cosby Show for all of us: a various set of families with flaws and all.

I can’t even ask them to add some Black people to the cast because, at this point, it would seem like they were forcing it. The show is perfect as it is. A slice of life of a majority White family … who act like EVERY race. Every one of us.

Well done!
