Neighbors, friends, and witnesses in Ypsilanti Township speculated that Tuesday’s six-car crash in Southeast Michigan claiming the life of a 32-year-old Canton woman was caused by a drunk driver.  The 34-year-old driver of the 1995 Yellow Ford Mustang sped through a red light, crashing into her Ford Taurus, which contained her two kids, pushing her car into four other vehicles. When the driver of the Mustang saw the wreck, he tried to flee the scene on foot. He was quickly found by a Sheriff’s deputy and taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where he is reported in stable condition. Information is trickling in as police are trying to treat this situation, involving children, as respectfully as possible.

13-Year-Old-Son is in Critical Condition

The children, ages 11 and 13, were transported to the University of Michigan hospital. The 13-year-old boy, who was riding in the front seat with his mother, is in critical condition. The 11-year-old girl is hospitalized while receiving non life-threatening medical attention. The drivers of the other four cars have been treated for minor injuries.

Was the Driver Drunk? or Tipsy?

Local reports vary as to whether or not the driver of the Mustang has been confirmed as being over the limit, although police said alcohol was a factor. What is clear is that the driver was going between 70 and 80 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone, he has a DUI on his record, was driving with a suspended license, he had consumed alcohol, and ran a red light in broad daylight. Upon release from the hospital, the police will take him into custody for arraignment on multiple felony charges.
