Among the early MTV Movie Awards 2012 winners are Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence. The stars of “The Hunger Games” took home the Best Male and Female Performance awards respectively.

While it seems the MTV Movie Award winners will likely include at least one win for “Harry Potter,” so far “The Hunger Games” has been best of show. Its two main actors brought home early awards. In the movie, Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen, while Hutcherson plays Peeta Mellark. Both did well enough to beat out some tough competition too, including Emma Stone, Emma Watson, Channing Tatum, and Daniel Radcliffe.

While Hutcherson was actually at the awards show and red carpet, Jen Lawrence was not. She sent in a video message with her popcorn statue in hand, thanking the author of “Hunger Games” for writing such a great series for her to star in. MTV even tweeted about the big win for Lawrence, with her award presented by Kristen Stewart of “Twilight” fame. Hutcherson was humbled by his win, as he noted he looks up to all of the other performers he was nominated with.

Will “Hunger Games” end up being the top award-winning movie for tonight’s MTV Movie Awards 2012? It could be a big year for this franchise which is just getting going!
